Thread Counts Explained
In simplest terms, the "thread count" (TC) refers to the number of fibres woven together in one-square-inch of fabric. You count both lengthwise (warp) and widthwise (weft) threads. So 100 lengthwise threads woven with 100 widthwise threads produce a thread count of 200. Thread counts can range anywhere from 80 - 1200TC. Low-end thread count fabrics are generally used in settings where the linens are going to have a short life span. High thread count bedding is made to last longer. The benefits of having a high thread count sheets is that mills are forced to create much finer threads in order to increase the amount of threads in a square inch. Finer threads therefore result in a much smoother and softer fabric. This is the main reason that a higher thread count fabric is more desirable than a low thread count one. Having finer threads also means that the threads are slightly more delicate, so be sure to follow the care instructions when washing your linens. If you're looking for the ultimate in softness, go for a higher thread count. Anything above 300TC is usually soft enough for most people. For those who are bedridden, we recommend you go for a much higher thread count, such as the 800TC to prevent bedsores.
The different available thread counts are:
120, 180, 200, 200 Stain Stripe, 400, 550 Satin Stripe and 800. In the most luxurious egyptian cotton, the finest cotton on the market.
